The core concept behind the Specspace Pavilion is to serve as a community hub — proposing new directions in design through voices both inside and outside the architecture industry. Since Specspace is a media brand with no physical products to showcase through the pavilion, the design team wanted to present the pavilion itself through the joy and new possibilities of design, adding energy and playfulness that aligns with the brand’s core identity: creativity paired with fun.
The primary material of the Specspace Pavilion is “air.” The design team set out to work with the lightest material possible — and air is the lightest of all. By inflating fabric with air, they were able to creatively shape the booth’s form. The design also playfully subverts the conventional use of concrete — a wasteful material for temporary pavilion construction — by printing a concrete texture onto the inflatable fabric surface instead.
The Pavilion is designed for easy assembly and installation, and can also be packaged and deployed at other venues. Transporting the inflatable fabric is straightforward: it fits into a box measuring just 2×3 meters, yet once inflated, it covers over 75 percent of Specspace’s total exhibition area.
